You know that thing you do with your dog, where you grab it’s front paws and make him/her do a little dance? Whether it is a waltz, a shimmy, a shake, or a twist, it is a sure thing that your dog does not enjoy it as much as you do. My guy hates to be danced; he usually starts gnawing at my hands to get me to stop. His name sounds strikingly similar to WIndy, and this is his little dance tune. Rarely do I feel so bubbly to force this upon my dog. Due to his compact and stout body proportions, it’s terribly difficult for him to do the twist to the rhythm and beat of this song.

“Ev-‘ry one knows it’s Wrig-leyyy”
I did not give this dog the name Wrigley by the way.

This post is dedicated to my boy, Wiggins!

There is a pug in Spanish Harlem…
It is a special pug, it’s never seen the sun.
It only comes out when the moon is on the run.

A little pug in Spanish Harlem…
With eyes as black as coal, that look down in my soul…
(la-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la)

Mark Wiener and The Quadratics featuring Steve Rogers.

For some strange reason, snippets of this tune will barge into my thoughts every now and then. When that happens, I immediately laugh when it’s fully realized in my head. Most recently, it is constantly in my head and it is ever so fun to sing to my dog at a loud volume when no one else is home, gettin’ a little wild and a little crazy. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do, it was a challenge to find this entire song.

Ah, this quirky number was running through my head constantly for the last week of March. No real time here with this song blog. A lot of songs posted will be from past and recurring themes that have provided my life with excellent background music. Aside from all the trivial tidbits involved in the production and lyrical motives to the song Boys Keep Swinging, there are two critical points according to my world that make this song noteworthy. One, it is extremely fun to sing this to a dog, and basically change every usage of the word “boy” to dog. Also, the transition of Bowie’s voice in the late 70’s to this quivering baritone he preferred to use at the time is just hilarious to me. It gives me much amusement to croon away these lines to a dog without the embarrassment of having a person hearing someone that is not David Bowie singing them.

*Note - My favorite line in the song to change up is switching, “Uncage the colors, unfurl the flag” to “Uncage the puggle, unfurl your tail”.

Here is another “song blog” added to the moderate pile of thousands of tumblelogs sharing the same format, and comparable to that pile, it is an outlet to share songs that have a personal attachment to me. The songs posted are endearing to me because they find a way to burrow into my cerebral cortex and overstay their welcome until another lil’ bugger passively kicks the old one out. Once a song checks into my brain, it is not hesitant to make itself at home. It bounces about on the springy bed making itself comfy. It pulls its sticky socks off and waves them around like a rally flag, wafting the fumes around the room. They order porno and room service on the company account immediately after room check-in, at 1:25 in the afternoon. Yelling obscenities and punching the walls for unknown reasons in the middle of the night is just the tip of the iceberg with most of these guys.

Not every creep that checks in irks me. There are some very charming songs that get special appreciation and respect by the VIP of operations here. Their hard work of being a jerk to get my attention is rewarded by serenading their best features to man’s best friend. Do I sing these mind-stalkers to my friends and co-workers? Do I butcher their integrity for myself while I shower or walk to the post office to pick up stamps? I make a conscious choice to not sing the #1 ditty that’s in my head during my day because I am not crazy. What is not crazy is singing to your dog, or any dog you are hanging out with for that matter, spoken in tongues. Dogs appreciate melody and song as much as any sane, healthy human does. The best thing is that they have NO idea what you are saying, but they are aware that they are in fact being serenaded. I have found that this makes a good dog very happy. At times when my wits are in a sharper state, I will shift around some of the lyrics to the hooks and aim them towards the dog. Now please do not get the idea that this is what I do on a constant to the canine society daily.  Almost never will I walk past a dog on the street and sing, “all I want is to have my pizzaaa-pie!” to the tune of Piece Of Mind by Boston. Hopefully, you readers/listeners can relate to this leisure of time spent hanging around a dog or cat or any household pet of your liking.

A majority of the songs posted on this page are mainly for the listener, secondly, the dog, and last but not least, the song that occupies my head to be showcased.

In My Room written by Brian Wilson and the Burt Bacharach of surf rock, Gary Usher is in many critics and fan’s opinion as one of their favorite Beach Boys song. To me, it is their greatest song written in their surfer girl/safari/deuce coupe/soda-pop repertoire that about ended at Summer Days, Summer Nights. In My Room is a frequent guest in my mind, and it always seems to call me up for more pillows when my dog is in my room doing his few favorite things on my bed; licking pillows and shaking his coarse fur all over it, chewing a rawhide, and napping. In my room truly is his favorite place to be in the house. The moment I get him up in the morning, he makes a bee-line straight to the end of my bed where he can do all his favorite things; in my room.

Enjoy.
